Tata Motors all new Zest compact sedan will be launched in India tomorrow at an event organized in Mumbai, Maharashtra. Bookings for the new sedan commenced online a while ago at a token amount of Rs 21,000. Production too began a few days ago at the company’s manufacturing unit located in Ranjangaon. Galore expectations have been built around the sedan since this is first new car to be rolled out from Tata Motors after five years.

Though the company offered new avatar of its other vehicles including Safari Strome and several others, during this time but Zest is a completely new product that is all set to make its debut in domestic market. Company’s last new product launched in India was its petite car, Nano in 2009. The hatchback created hysteria among auto aficionados and customers in India due to its small size and more importantly extremely low price.

However, Nano failed to live up to company’s expectations, during this time Tata Motors came up with several upgrades of the hatchback, but to their disappointment it did not do any good to Nano’s sales.

The company has been suffering on sales front for a while, hopefully things will improve with Zest launch. Showcased at the 2014 Auto Expo, Zest and Bolt (new hatchback from Tata Motors) grabbed eyeballs. The USP of these new cars is the fresh design adorned by them. The high-point of the new design is Tata’s signature grille with new ‘Humanity Line’ that flows seamlessly into the headlights. Other exterior modifications include chrome accented head lights, LED lamps at rear, newly designed 15 inch alloy wheels among others. Many new high end features have also been embedded inside the cabin such as new five inch infotainment system, navigation and location hunting systems designed by MapMyIndia and various others.

Tata will launch Zest in petrol and diesel guise, the petrol variants will be powered by newly developed 1.2 litre, i-VTEC Revotron engine. Diesel range will get the Fiat sourced 1.3 litre Multi-jet engine. Besides manual transmission, diesel variants will also get automated manual transmission. While most of the details have been revealed we eagerly wait to see how competitively Tata has priced Zest to compete with Maruti Swift Dzire, Hyundai Xcent and Honda Amaze.
