Taking things to the next level, Tata Motors will soon be introducing AMT option in petrol variants of the Tiago in top-spec XT and XZ. The hatchback has been of great help in guiding the brand to third position as the largest seller as the company while also successfully reinstating confidence among customers. Currently, the automaker offers the Tiago in petrol as well as diesel which comes mated to five-speed manual transmission as standard.

The new AMT gearbox will come mated to the existing 1.2-litre three-cylinder Revotron petrol engine that generates 84bhp of power and 114Nm of torque. The Indian automaker might source the Magneti Marelli-built 5-speed unit. As seen in images, it is likely that Tata motors might introduce the AMT option sometime soon. The upcoming version is also expected to return similar fuel efficiency figures of 23.84kmpl or slightly higher than the manual petrol version. For now, the company has no plans to offer AMT option in diesel transmission and it is unlikely to be offered anytime soon.

The Tiago AMT variant will compete strongly against the Celerio AMT from the country’s largest automaker, Maruti Suzuki. In comparison to a regular manual version, the AMT variant is likely to cost an additional Rs 30,000 – Rs 40,000 over the current pricing of the manual version. The vehicle will not get any cosmetic or feature upgrades and changes will be limited to new AMT transmission.
