Tata Motor’s European arm for research and development, TMETC, has built a Tata Tiago EV. The Tiago EV concept made its public debut at the CENEX Low Carbon vehicle event in Millbrook, UK and might make it to the Tata stall at the Auto Expo 2018.

On the outside, except for the large EV decal, there are no visible changes that will distinguish the Tiago EV from the regular fossil-fuelled car. A 110bhp electric motor powers the front wheels of the Tiago EV and the battery pack provides a range of over 100kms. Though the range is not anywhere close to the Teslas of the world, the Tiago EV can be a good intra-city car, something that can effectively compete against the Mahindra E20 in India.

The Tiago EV claims to hit a top-speed of 135kmph and should ideally have an optimum cruising speed of at least 80kmph. Pegged at almost 1040kg, the Tiago EV is slightly on the heavier side. But, that is mainly because of the added battery pack with its independent cooling system which manages the heat dissipation from the battery pack to optimise battery output.

This is not the first time that Tata Motors has built a functional electric prototype. After the Vista EV and the Bolt EV, which were developed for study purposes, the Tiago EV might be one of the first products of the Tata 2.0 to take a leap towards the all-electric future that the government of India has in mind for the year 2030.
