The bookings for the Tata Tiago have begun and the hatchback can be booked at a Tata dealership for Rs 10,000. The launch is expected to happen on March 28.
First introduced as the Zica hatchback in December last year, the new car's named had to be changed due to the Zika virus. It was recently named as Tiago through the #Fantastico name hunt campaign. Now that Tata Motors has moved past all these controversies, the company will finally launch the car for the Indian market.
The Tiago will be offered in both petrol and diesel engine options. The petrol mill is a 1.2-litre three-cylinder unit (83.8bhp, 114Nm), while the diesel is 1.0-litre three-cylinder motor (69bhp, 140Nm). Both engines come paired to a five-speed manual transmission.
The Tata Tiago is the first car to feature the brand's new Impact design philosophy. It has been developed with inputs from Pune, UK and Italy design studios. Apart from promising looks, the car is packed with practical and safety equipment along with an energy absorbing body structure. The new Tiago hatchback will compete with the Maruti Suzuki Celerio and the Hyundai i10 in the small car segment in India.
