The recently launched Tiago hatchback is a game changer for Tata Motors which had been struggling with sales for a while. To further strengthen its footing in the segment, the automaker plans on introducing the AMT Tiago variant sometime by mid of next year. Ahead of its official debut, the Tiago AMT test mule has been spotted which does not get any design upgrades and changes are limited to a new transmission.
The regular manual version is available in petrol and diesel engine options, however, reports suggest that the upcoming AMT variant will be available only with a 1.2-litre petrol engine which generates 84bhp of power and 114Nm of torque. In terms of fuel efficiency figures, the petrol AMT version is expected to return similar fuel efficiency figures as that of manual transmission which is 23.84kmpl. The vehicle gets regular shifter with three drive modes – R, N and D along with an option to shift it manually.
Post launch, the Tiago AMT will compete against the likes of Celerio AMT. The new AMT variant is likely to be offered in top spec variant only and will help the automaker have an upper hand in its segment as it has no direct competitors for now. On the pricing aspect, the AMT variant might be priced a bit higher than the regular variant.
