      Tata Sumo Gold to be strategically produced to achieve supremacy in the utility vehicle segment

      Tata Motors, the pioneer in commercial vehicles and ranked among top three passenger car makers in the country, is strategically devising plans to achieve a sales volume of up to 5000 vehicles per month within the next two months of latest entry level off-road utility vehicle, Sumo Gold. The move is directed towards strengthening the position of the automobile manufacturer in the utility vehicle segment by greater penetration and aggressive approach to reach out to the target market.

      The Sumo Gold will be priced lesser by Rs. 40000 as compared to the prices of the existing Sumo variants and will incorporate Tata Motors’ newly acquired C4 engine ensuring high performance and efficiency. Currently, the utility vehicle is manufactured at the company’s production plant located in Pune with a monthly production of 3000 units.

      Mr. Ashesh Dhar, Head- Utility Vehicles Product Group, Tata Motors, commented during the unveiling of Sumo Gold saying, "We have cut the price by up to Rs 40,000. The vehicle's weight has been reduced, it has an improved CR4 engine delivering better mileage of 14.3 kmpl and pick up at 85 bhp. We have added new external and internal features in it."

      He further added that, "Currently, Sumo sells about 3,000 units per month. Four months back, we were selling only 1,100 units. We have increased the volumes. Now we plan to sell 5,000 units in another two months."

      The Sumo Gold is offered by the company in two set of models, Bharat Stage lll version and BS IV model tagged with a price of Rs. 5.47 Lakhs (ex-showroom Chennai) and Rs. 5.62 Lakhs (ex-showroom Chennai) respectively.
