Tata has officially unveiled their upcoming hatchback Zica through pictures. The new car is expected to be launched in January 2016 and compete with the Maruti Suzuki Celerio and Chevrolet Beat in India.

The car sports new sweptback headlamps, round fog lamps with a chrome ring, wraparound tail lamps and redesigned bumpers. The distinctive front grille gets a honeycomb mesh pattern similar to the one on the front air intakes. The alloys are new and the car gets a different roofline differentiating it from the current range of Tata cars. The Zica follows Tata's HorizonNext design philosophy and the final product does look modern and impressive with its fresh looks.

Though the manufacturer has not officially released the pictures of the Zica's interior, the recent spyshots give us a clear idea of how the cabin looks. It gets a layout similar to the one in the Bolt hatchback with chrome embellishments in the interior. The steering wheel is similar to the one in the Bolt and the top-of-the-line variant is expected to get steering mounted audio controls as well. Going by the equipment list of the Bolt, the top-end Zica might also get the touch-screen Harman audio system paired with Bluetooth, USB and Aux.

The Zica will be offered in petrol as well diesel trims. The petrol will be the 1.2-litre naturally aspirated mill based on the Revotron engine. On the other hand, the oil-burner will be a 1.05-litre three cylinder turbocharged diesel engine, a downsized version of the Indica's 1.4-litre powerplant. Transmission options will be the conventional five-speed gearbox, with the probability of the AMT gearbox also to be offered.

With its promising looks, new engine and new features on offer, the Tata Zica is expected to offer a good value for money for Indian consumers on a budget. Tata Motors has roped in ace Argentinian footballer Lionel Messi as their brand ambassador for the promotion of the Zica under the Made of Great banner. The new hatchback might replace the Indica eV2 car next year and will be slotted below the Bolt in Tata’s line-up.
