      Tata reports a 7 per cent decline in global sales in April 2013

      Tata Motors, the country's leading utility vehicle manufacturer, has reported that its global sales suffered a decline of 7.02 per cent during April 2013. As per reports, the company sold just 81,241 units globally last month, as against sales of 87,377 units recorded in the corresponding year-ago period.

      Tata Motors' luxury car brand Jaguar Land Rover managed some growth and its sales stood at 28,874 units in April 2013, as compared to 25,143 units sold in the same month of previous year. Jaguar makes luxury saloons and super sports cars and recorded sales of 5,334 units, while the premium utility vehicle brand Land Rover picked up sales of 23,450 units in the month of April this year.

      As per a Tata Motors' statement, the company's total passenger car sales at 41,272 units last month, over 49,369 units sold in the April 2012. Further, the company's sales from its commercial vehicle portfolio grew up to 39,969 units, as compared to 38,008 units sold in April last year. Tata Motors is the country's leading commercial vehicle manufacturer and is a prominent player in the passenger vehicle market as well. The company is the third largest passenger car maker in India, after Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai.

      Further, Tata Motors global sales constitute the individual sales recorded by Tata passenger cars, Tata Daewoo and Hispano Carrocera commercial vehicles, various distributed brands in India, along with Jaguar and Land Rover.
