In recent times, several reports have surfaced, which say that Tata Nano diesel making its debut at the upcoming Auto Expo 2014. The news has been floating out for quite a while now, but now it has gathered more intensity off-late. Tata Motors, too, has spoken in recent times about its future plans for the Nano hatchback, thereby substantiating these rumours. However, till now, no official has been made about the date on which this compact hatchback will be launched in the India. Thereby, everything being said at present is based on pure speculations and rumours.

Tata Nano has so far enjoyed a lot of market hype, however, despite this; the same has not translated into sales, something that the company would like to change. The vehicle has not fulfilled expectations of its manufacturer and has hampered plans of Tata Motors to become a top player in the compact hatchback segment. It has not been able to challenge the likes of Maruti Suzuki Alto 800 and Hyundai Eon, which have ruled the category for a long time.

Nano was initially launched as the world's cheapest production car but soon fell out in front of its competitors in the Indian market. Since then, Tata Motors has been pondering over devising a strategy to somehow give a boost to the flattened growth graph of Nano. But, so far, no spikes have been visible in sales graph of this compact passenger car.

The below-par performance and falling sales of Nano have not acted as a deterrent to the will power of Tata Motors. The auto company seems to have taken a resolve to try and dig in everything out to design a success formula for this hatchback. At present, average monthly sales of this compact vehicle are less than 2000 units as against the whooping manufacturing capacity of 20000 units. The gap is phenomenal and task to bridge it is highly demanding.

Earlier, the auto company had introduced the CNG version of Nano that is capable of providing a really high mileage figure. Quite recently, there was news about the probable launch of Nano Twist on 15th January, 2014. This variant will come equipped with an electric power steering system. According to industry experts, Twist is likely to create an impact on the market due to addition of this new highly sought after feature. The auto company too would be hoping on similar lines.

As per latest market developments, Tata Motors does not want to stop with Nano Twist as it is in a mood to get more aggressive. As mentioned above, now the company would like to focus on bringing on a diesel version of Nano to delight domestic customers. As many experts think, this time there is more substance to efforts and Nano diesel, with enhanced solidity and safety, is more likely to make a significant impact. As per the information available from various sources, the diesel Nano is expected to be powered by a three-cylinder 800 cc powertrain.
