The trouble for the India’s cheapest car Tata Nano doesn’t seem to end soon with yet another report of a brand new Tata Nano engulfing into flames after catching fire in the National Capital. Fortunately, two passengers, who were inside the car when incident took place, escaped safely out of the burning Nano.

The incident took place on Saturday night, when a brother sister duo, Nishant (25) and his sister Suman (35) were on their way to Connaught Place from their Krishna Nagar residence. Both rushed out of the car soon after smelling smoke emanating from the vehicle. As per a statement given to the police by Suman and Nishant, the car engulfed into flames soon after they rushed-out of the car.

Since its launch in March 2009, there have been a dozen incidents in different parts of the country where a brand new Nano caught fire after smoke coming out of the engine compartment. However, the company has been maintaining that there is no manufacturing default. The company had started offering a free safety kit with the car to ensure extra safety since November 2010.

Past one year has been a roller-coaster ride for the India’s most popular car Tata Nano as after reaching to a peak of 9,000 units in July 2010, its sales dipped to mere 509 units in November last year.
