Tata Motors, the homegrown automaker, is trying everything to revive its lost Nano brand in the country. Despite sluggish sales, the company is aiming to add new variants to Nano lineup. Tata Motors is planning to launch a series of new cars and facelifts of its existing cars in the market. Adding to it, the Nano AMT variant is also ready to hit our market. If reports are to be believed, the AMT-equipped Nano could be launched in the second half of 2015.

The AMT variant of the Tata Nano has already been spotted several times during its test rounds on Indian roads. The homegrown automaker has already introduced the automated manual transmission gearbox on its high-selling Zest compact sedan. The recently introduced Bolt hatchback is also expected to get AMT in near future. The inclusion of the AMT gearbox will make Nano the world’s cheapest automatic car. This transmission will make driving the Nano more stress-free, as it does not sport a clutch pedal. The driver can change the gears either sequentially or fully automatically. The AMT gearbox also costs lesser than the conventional auto gearbox, which will help Tata to keep its price low.

The Tata Nano AMT variant will get better quality plastic, electric power assisted steering, front power windows, newly designed instrument cluster and better upholstery on seats. It also features the open-able tailgate, which helps in adding to its luggage space. Under the bonnet is the same 2-cylinder 624cc engine that churns out a maximum power output of 38PS and a peak torque of 51Nm.
