The Supreme Court ban on registration of diesel cars with engine sizes over 2000cc has been giving major automakers in the country a tough time. Recently, Mahindra and Mahindra revealed its plan to downsize its popular 2.2-litre engine to about 1.99-litres, without affecting the final power output. This time around, sources have revealed that Tata Motors has been planning on downsizing its 2179cc and 2956cc engines to help it comply with new norms.

The upcoming Nexon compact SUV that was showcased at the recently concluded 2016 Auto Expo event featured a 1.5-litre diesel engine that generates about 108bhp of power and 260Nm of torque. The petrol version would be powered by 1.2-litre that would generate about 89bhp of power and 140 Nm of torque. The company has not revealed the exact new engine sizes and details on the same would be known at a later date.
