The Indian auto giant Tata Motors has said that the company is utilizing less than half of the total manufacturing capacity of its popular small car Tata Nano. The company has a total installed capacity of 2.5 lakh units per annum for Tata Nano model.

Speaking to the reporters in Kolkata, R Ramakrishna, Vice President (commercial) & passenger car business head at Tata Motors Ltd., said, "Our installed capacity for Nano is 2.5 lakh units per annum and we are presently producing 10,000 cars per month." He was speaking at the occasion of the launch of new version of Tata Sumo,

Since its launch in March 2009, the sales of Tata Nano model have been on a roller-coaster ride in the Indian market. Just a few months after registering peak monthly sales of 9,000 units in July 2010, the sales of Nano decreased steeply to mere 509 units in November 2010. However, the sales of this car has been more stable in last one year, company offering a number of financial and cash discount along with free extended warranty offer.

Meanwhile, the company is looking forward to launch more fuel efficient car models in the country to maintain growth figures upwards, bucking the trend of slowing sales in the Indian auto market.
