Tata Motors is the only Indian automotive manufacturer that features in the list of top 50 companies that are investing in research and development. The list is topped by Volkswagen followed by Samsung and Microsoft. From India only Tata Motors is present in the top 50 companies that have one of the highest spendings in the industry.
Tata Motors has moved up from 104th position (in the previous year) to 49th position. Majority of the expenses is from its UK-based Jaguar Land Rover. This is the largest increase in investment by any company in this year.
In the top 2500 companies, there are 26 Indian companies, while there are 829 from the US, 360 from Japan, while China has 301. Taiwan, Switzerland, Canada and even Israel have more companies than India. In this year’s list, India stands in 15th place.The other Indian auto companies in this list include Mahindra & Mahindra, Bajaj Auto, Ashok Leyland, Apollo Tyres, TVS Motor and Force India. Only other automaker in the global top 10 list is Toyota in ninth place.
