      Tata Motors may launch Jaguar, Land Rover in India

      Tata Motors is contemplating its options of bringing Jaguar and Land Rover to India and begin its retailing in the country. According to the sources, a large fleet of Jaguars have been imported in the country for their initials use at the Taj Hotels in the country which are owned by Tata Group. The company also plans to open exclusive company-owned showrooms in the country for retailing of these Jaguars and Land Rovers.

      The Jaguar FX will be pitted against the Mercedes E-class and BMW 5-series and shall be priced at nearly Rs. 40 lakh if it is imported as a completely-built-unit or CBU. The new Jaguar FX will have 2.7 litre diesel and 3.6 litre petrol variants in India. Amongst the Land Rover models, the Freelander will definitely mark its presence in the Indian portfolio.

      The company initially plans to bring the JLR models as CBUs or completely built units that attract nearly 114 percent duty. However, later it intends to import them as CKd (completely knocked down) units and assemble them here that will attract only 15 percent duty.
