      Tata Motors announces global annual sales for December 2012

      Tata Motors, India’s largest auto company by revenues, declared its worldwide sales for the month of December 2012 at 98,968 units, marking a fall of 13.9 per cent over the figures of year-ago period, which stood at 1,14,920 units. With these figures, the auto maker also marked a dip of 3 per cent under the review of sales recorded in November 2012.

      Also titled as largest Commercial Vehicle (CV) manufacturer of the country, Tata Motors delivered 52,043 units globally during the month with a fall of 3.36 per cent against 53,854 units sold in the same tenure of 2011. These sales included the figures of company’s Spanish unit Hispano Carrocera and South Korea’s Tata Daewoo.

      However, in December 2012, the passenger vehicle sales of the auto maker stood at 46,925 units with a fall of 23.2 percent over 61,066 units sold in the corresponding period of 2011. In month-on-month comparison, the sales of Tata passenger vehicles reported at 14,643 units, marking a dip of 21 per cent. Jaguar Land Rover, the luxury car brand of Tata Motors, witnessed sales of 32,282 units, registering an increase of 4.2 per cent worldwide. During December 2012, the wholesales of Jaguar stood at 5,444 units, whereas the figures of Land Rover were 26,838 units.

      With the abovementioned figures, it seems that the auto maker was unable to achieve well in the passenger vehicle segment during the last calendar year. Owing to this, industry experts believe that Tata Motors will surely come up with a new strategy to boost it sales not only in India, but in the rest of the world as well.
