Tata’s upcoming full-size MPV – the Hexa, has been spotted on test yet again, this time in a trio of different trim levels. The vehicle will be launched as a long overdue successor to the Aria which didn’t do too well in the market.

The Hexa is first of the new breed of utility vehicles currently under development by Tata.Earlier it was expected to be powered by a 2.2-litre, 4-cylinder, VARICOR diesel engine developing 154bhp of power and 400Nm of torque. Now though, with the ongoing ban on certain higher capacity diesel engines in Delhi, Tata could be on to planning a sub-2-litre unit to evade the ban.

While the Hexa is expected to come with a 6-speed manual gearbox, this new model’s drivetrain highlight could come in the form of the optional all-wheel drive that Tata may offer. The latter option certainly will widen the Hexa’s appeal among MPV buyers as well as those who would otherwise opt for a Renault Duster or the Mahindra XUV500.

The Hexa has been spotted on test for a while now and is nearing its launch. The MPV, in all probability, will hit the showrooms within the next couple of months and compete with the recently introduced Toyota Innova Crysta.
