"We will have an electric car in the market in September," said Ratan Tata on his micro-blogging feed on Twitter. He was quoted at Cornell University Twitter account as Ratan Tata is also a trustee at the Cornwell University. Tata has already quoted on several occasions that the company is in the process of developing cars that run on alternative fuel as well as hybrid cars. The company now reveals that one of its electric car models will be ready to hit the markets by September this year.

Earlier it was reported that Tata Motors is developing electric car but that it would first be first launched in Norway and then brought to the Indian market as electric models are more feasible there. Moreover, there is proper infrastructure in place to develop and sell such cars. Looking at the statement made by Ratan Tata on Twitter, it presently remains unclear whether the new model will come to the Indian market first or the overseas market.

Indian customers are already awaiting the results of the lucky draw for bookings done for Tata’s ultra-cheap car Nano. The company starts its deliveries from next month after the names of first lucky owners of Tata Nano are announced after the lucky draw.
