Tata Motors has hiked prices of their cars up to Rs. 40,000 depending upon the model and their variants. The hike is effective from October 01, 2010 on all commercial and passenger car vehicles. The company stated that so far it had been absorbing the costs but the rising input costs and implementation of new emission norms led to the hike.

"The price increase in passenger cars is on the Tata Indica and the Tata Indigo family, in the range of Rs 4,500 to Rs 14,000, depending upon the model," Tata Motors said in a statement. It also raised the rates of its utility vehicles Sumo and Grande MK II by Rs 7,800-Rs 10,300.

Tata Motors follows suit of many automobile manufacturers who have hiked prices of their models. Hyundai, Maruti and Mahindra have recently increased prices of their models in past month citing rising input costs and adapting new emission norms as major reasons for the price hike.
