Suzuki has announced its plans to invest around 100 billion yen in its new production facility in Gujarat. The investments will allow the Japanese carmaker to open a second production line that could be operational by 2019.

The second production line is expected to generate the same amount of volumes as the first production line which will begin next year. The additional lines will increase Maruti Suzuki’s production capacity to 2 million cars a year. More importantly, the new facility will churn out cars like the Baleno which is a current hot seller and demands a waiting period of over six months for certain trims.

According to the report, Suzuki will also add assembly lines for engines and gearboxes. The company, in fact, is looking at a major boost in production with the Gujarat facility – Maruti Suzuki India is currently running two plants with a combined annual capacity of 1.5 million vehicles. With these upcoming production lines added to the mix, Suzuki is looking increase the capacity to 2 million cars a year.
