At the 2013 Indonesian auto show, Suzuki unveiled the seven-seater MPV version of the Wagon R hatchback. Shown as a concept, this MPV was claimed to be the possible rival for the Datsun Go+ MPV. Now, reports are coming that the company has given green signal to this MPV. The development work has already begun and the production version of the MPV is likely to hit the market by 2016. Moreover, the 7 Seater Wagon R is claimed to feature better styling than the hatchback sibling.

This MPV is likely to go on sale in the Indonesian market in 2016; however, the company might also launch the MPV in India. Indonesian buyers prefer MPV over the regular hatchbacks, and the affordable seven-seater could serve as an entry level product to rival Go+. The company is yet to announce the exact launch date in India; however, MSI might launch the vehicle to rival Go+ scheduled to go on sale next year.

Though there is no clarity on the engine options that the 7-Seater MPV will come up with, we expect it to feature the Swift's 1.2-litre K-Series petrol engine, which is both fuel efficient and powerful enough for an entry-level MPV. Suzuki might also introduce the LPG and CNG fuel options with the 7-Seater Wagon R. This sub-4 metre MPV will also qualify to enjoy the excise duty benefits under India’s excise duty slab.
