The 2017 Suzuki GSX-R1000 has been launched in India at Rs 19 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). This sixth-generation superbike is also available in a higher-spec version called the GSX-R1000R, priced at Rs 22 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

Suzuki launches 2017 GSX-R1000 in India at Rs 19 lakh

The 2017 GSX-R1000 is the lightest, fastest and most advanced iteration of the GSX-R litre-class superbike. The redesigned fairing features LED lamps and triangular air-scoops to give it an aggressive look, while improving the aerodynamics. Apart from the new design philosophy, the GSX-R1000 also gets technology derived from Suzuki MotoGP race machines to bring it on par with the current crop of superbikes.

At the heart of the GSX-R1000 is a 1000cc inline-four engine, which delivers 197bhp and 117Nm of torque through a six-speed gearbox. The engine gets variable valve timing which allows for different camshaft timing to be used at different rpm. This improves the torque delivery across the rev range.

The GSX-R1000 rides on Showa Big Piston Forks and rear monoshock and Bridgestone RS10 radial tyres. The brake setup consists of a Brembo monoblock setup at the front and a Nissin setup at the rear. The performance-oriented GSX-R1000R also benefits from with a bi-directional quickshifter, launch control, a lightweight top triple clamp and a lightweight battery.

The Suzuki GSX-R1000 rivals other litre-class superbikes like the Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade, Yamaha YZF-R1, BMW S1000RR, Aprilia RSV4-RR and the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R. The standard bike is available in metallic blue and matte black, the GSX-R1000R is offered in metallic blue and sparkle black paint schemes.
