Suzuki, the Japanese car maker, has unveiled the new iK-2 concept at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show. The Suzuki iK-2 previews the company's upcoming premium hatchback, which will be sold globally. Called the YRA premium hatchback in India, the production version iK-2 will be positioned above the Swift hatchback in Suzuki's global line-up. It will rival against the likes of Hyundai i20, Honda Jazz and Volkswagen Polo upon its launch in India.

The concept looks completely different from usual hatchbacks from Suzuki. It features a sloping roofline that ends in a steeply raked windscreen. The side profile of the hatchback has striking haunches and a window line that runs across the length and ends in a steeply raked windscreen. The production version of the hatchback will be wider and longer than the Swift. However, the lines and creases will be toned down to make it road compatible.

Dimensionally, the iK-2 hatchback measures 4023mm in length, 1709mm in width and 1405mm in height, and it has a large wheelbase of 2520mm. The flared wheel arches of the hatchback have been fitted to 18-inch alloy wheels; however, the production-spec model will get either 15- or 16-inch wheels. Under the hood is a new 1.0-litre BoosterJet motor, which is a direct-injection turbo-petrol unit. The production-spec model will be launched in the European market in 2016. India launch is expected by the year end.
