Tata Indica Vista and Toyota Etios Liva are among the prominent names in the premium hatchback segment of the Indian passenger car market. Indica Vista happens to be one of the bestsellers from Tata Motors, whereas Etios Liva has also managed decent sales in the country. Both the hatchbacks are available at almost identical pricing, which makes competition between them even tougher.

Tata Indica Vista is designed with best-in-class interior space setting and sturdy exterior build, besides boasting of a powerful under-the-hood configuration. Exterior appearance of the car may appear slightly basic and obsolete, but its heavy and strong outside build caters to requirements of domestic car lovers, who are looking for a robust vehicle. On the other hand, Toyota Etios Liva looks class apart on comparison with Indica Vista. The Japanese product looks fresh and sporty, but lacks the strong build over its Indian made counterpart. Accordingly, people looking for a stylish car in their garage will definitely opt for Toyota Etios Liva, instead of Tata Indica Vista.

Coming to under-the-hood specifications, petrol variants of Tata Indica Vista are offered with 1.2 litre and 1.4 litre engine options, which churns out a peak power and torque equations of 64 bhp / 96 Nm and 89 bhp / 116 Nm, respectively. The 16 valve, 4 cylinder, MPFI petrol engine with Variable Valve Timing (VVT) technology come mated with a five-speed manual transmission system. The diesel variants of Indica Vista come assimilated with an option of 1.4 litre TDI Turbodiesel motor and a 1.3 litre Quadrajet Common Rail Diesel (CRDe) engine under its bonnets. The power output of 1.4 litre TDI and 1.3 litre Quadrajet CRDe engine are 70 bhp and 74 bhp, respectively.

Just like Indica Vista, the Japanese auto giant Toyota has offered its Etios Liva premium hatch in both petrol as well as diesel guises in the Indian passenger car market. The petrol Etios Liva comes fitted with a 1,197 cc, 4 cylinder 3NR-FE DOHC motor, which belts out a peak power output of 79 bhp with a maximum torque of 104 Nm. Further, the diesel model incorporates a 1.4 litre engine that could generate a maximum output power and torque equation close to 67 bhp and 170 Nm, respectively. Accordingly, no clear winner emerges in terms of engine performance between Toyota Etios Liva and Tata Indica Vista models. However, in retrospect, Japanese engineered automobiles always have an edge over other cars assembled all across the globe.

At present, Tata Indica Vista is offered to domestic car enthusiasts at a price range starting from Rs. 4.10 lakhs, which goes on till Rs.6.6 lakhs in the Indian passenger car market. Accordingly, Toyota retail Etios Liva premium hatch within a price bracket of Rs. 4.5 lakhs and Rs. 6.5 lakhs in the country. Taking into account their market pricing, both the vehicles cater to the same portion of domestic customers. However, it can be said with certainty that Etios Liva has an edge over Indica Vista in luring young Indian clientele with its youthful good looks and contemporary design.
