"We will launch our small car by 2010-end. Our plant for the small car in Bangalore will be ready by that time," Toyota Kirloskar Motor's Deputy Managing Director, Sandeep Singh said. Toyota Kirloskar Motors is setting up its plant in Bangalore and intends to bring a new small car by end of 2010 when the plant is ready and starts manufacturing. Toyota is investing nearly Rs.3000 crores in setting up a new plant near Bangalore. Initially, the plant will manufacture only 70,000 units against initially planned 100,000 units.

"We will make only 70,000 small cars from our plant. The demand for vehicles has fallen by 30 per cent," he said. The company has not yet decided on the price of the small car, but it would run on gas, he said.

The new small car from Toyota will have 70 percent localized components which will make the cars cost-competitive. Toyota is also expanding its dealership network in India. It has currently 85 dealers in the country which will be scaled up to 95 dealers by end of this year. By end-2010, Toyota will have nearly 150 dealers pan India.
