Skoda is working on a new seven-seater luxury SUV codenamed A-Plus. A-Plus SUV will be Skoda’s production-spec version of Volkswagen CrossBlue concept. The seven seater SUV will underpin parent company, Volkswagen’s, popular MQB platform and will be positioned above Yeti in terms of pricing. In its segment, A-Plus will rival the likes of Hyundai Santa Fe, however buzz has it that the former is likely to carry a price tag less than the latter.
Made for the global market, there is a thin possibility that A-Plus SUV could come to India. If at all brought to India, A-Plus will be brought as a completely knocked down unit that will help the auto maker to price the car viably. Internationally, the new seven seater SUV is expected to launch by 2016.
In other international markets, the SUV will be offered in four cylinder, turbo petrol and diesel engine options. Since there is yet no clarity on the India launch, hence there is no information on the specifications of the new SUV. However, going by Skoda India’s strategy to focus more on premium cars, it is likely that A-Plus could debut in India. Besides this, Skoda is also contemplating an entry level SUV that will be positioned below Yeti in terms of size and price.
