      Skoda set to launch new MissionL compact car in India by Dec 2011

      Skoda Auto, the Czech Republic based unit of the Europe’s largest car maker Volkswagen, is planning to launch a compact car in the Indian market by this year end. The car is named as MissionL and it is currently on display at the ongoing Frankfurt Motor Show in Germany. As per the company, the new Skoda MissionL is in its final stage of development and will be rolled-out soon.

      In a statement given on Tuesday, the firm said, “The MissionL will be launched in Europe, Russia and China in 2012, and the customers in India will see it arrive in the market even earlier, before the end of 2011.”

      The decision of rolling-out the new MissionL compact car in the Indian market is in line with company’s target of enhancing its sales in the global market to 1.5 million by year 2018. In India, the company is aggressively planning to expand its portfolio with the launch of a new car in the mini segment and mid size sedan segment.

      While speaking to the reporters on the company’s India strategy, Skoda Board Chairman HC Winfried Vahland said, “This new compact model and the new products to follow are a guarantee of accomplishing our goal to increase global annual sales to 1.5 million by 2018. We are going to present a new car approximately every six months.”

      The current portfolio of Skoda in the Indian market includes premium hatchback Fabia, premium sports utility vehicle (SUV) Skoda Yeti, and Premium sedans like Skoda Laura and Superb.
