Skoda took a splendid decision by bringing out the third generation Octavia on the MQB platform The Czech automobile manufacturer has started celebration of its 500000th production of its third generation at Mladá Boleslav on December 15. This model has played a pivotal role in boosting the success of the company in Europe, though the same has not been the case in India. Despite the fact that this car has been a class leading model, it has not been able to grasp the attention of car fanatics. The third generation Octavia took up the reins from Laura in 2012 and has shown a remarkable positive growth. Sales have increased by almost 24.7 per cent in Western Europe by November-end 2014. Central Europe contributed to an increase by a total 20 per cent.

The company has its production house set-up in India, as well, after Czech Republic. Apart from these two countries, the manufacturer also has manufacturing establishments in Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Russia, China and some others. The model was the winner of many accolades in the past in a number of countries. It is also available in 4-wheel drive option and has worked wonders for the company. The car is powered by a 2.0 litre turbocharged diesel engine, which is capable of producing 141 bhp with 320 Nm of torque. The petrol version is provided with 1.4 litre and 1.8 litre mills, capable of churning out 138 and 177 bhp powers, respectively. The brand expects to carry on its great run with the car and make the same impact in India, as well, in the coming years.
