The Skoda Rapid is due for a makeover and this revised sedan is already being tested in India. The revamped C-segment sedan is expected to go on sale in India from August this year.

The modifications to the 2016 Rapid are similar to the Octavia and the recently launched Superb. It gets Skoda's redesigned front moustache grille and instead of the curved headlamps from the existing model, the revised car will get sleeker headlights. Not many changes can be seen on the side and the rear section of the test mules that were spotted recently. Nevertheless, the carmaker may incorporate the use of LED units in the tail lamps.

The changes on the latest iteration of the Rapid extend into the cabin as well. The upcoming car's interior will be more premium than the current version of the sedan. It is expected to get a new infotainment system with Mirrorlink and an updated upholstery. The car might get features like rain sensing wipers, cruise control, Climatronic-automatic AC with dust and pollen filter, front centre armrest with rear AC vent and electrically adjustable and foldable ORVMs.

The engine options for the 2016 Skoda Rapid will be carried over with some tweaks to the powertrains. This might include a retuned 1.6-litre petrol mill for better fuel efficiency. According to reports, the 1.5-litre diesel mill will also get a slight power increase, in addition to the increase in fuel economy. The five-speed manual or a seven-speed DSG automatic transmission option will continue to be offered.

The Skoda Rapid was first launched in India in 2011 and hasn't received a major change in its appearance apart from some minor tweaks. This time, Skoda's highly capable C-segment sedan will get the much needed transformation that will pit it against the cars in the C-segment in India. It will continue to compete with the Honda City, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Volkswagen Vento, Hyundai Verna and the Fiat Linea when launched.
