While the Skoda Kodiaq has been globally unveiled, it was yet to be seen in public in India. However, the recent images of the car testing without any camouflage marks the first appearance of the SUV in our country.

Production-Ready Skoda Kodiaq spotted in India ahead of launch

The Skoda Kodiaq is the Czech Republic carmaker’s first-ever seven-seater SUV. It draws inspiration for its name from Alaska’s ‘Kodiak’ bear and will be the automaker’s new flag-bearer model. Skoda’s VisionS Concept which was revealed at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show, has formed the base and design language for the Kodiaq SUV. It comes with a seven-seat layout aimed at big families, business professionals and off-road enthusiasts.

The Indian model of the Skoda Kodiaq is expected to get the 1.4-litre four-cylinder petrol mill churning out 155bhp of power. The diesel might get the 2.0-litre TDI mill producing 190bhp of power. A DSG automatic transmission could be standard in both variants, but the diesel in addition might get the AWD system with the brand's Adaptive Dynamic Chassis Control.

The India launch of the Skoda Kodiaq is expected to happen by the end of this year. It will then compete with the likes of the Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour and similar seven-seater premium SUVs. The carmaker believes that the Kodiaq represents the strengths of the Czech brand and is designed on parameters like character in design, extraordinary space for occupants, practical intelligence and innovative technology. Watch this space for added details, which will be revealed closer to its launch.
