      Skoda India expects volume sales from upcoming compact sedan Rapid

      Skoda Rapid, the upcoming compact sedan in the Indian market, is expected to be a volume seller for the Czech Republic based car maker Skoda Auto. The Skoda Rapid is all set to be rolled-out in the Indian market in the month of December 2011. It will be the first ever compact sedan model in the country from Skoda portfolio; as Skoda’s current portfolio in the Indian market include premium sedans like Skoda Laura, Superb, sports utility vehicle Yeti and compact hatchback Skoda Fabia. The launch of rapid will not only fill the wide price gap between the Skoda line-up in India, but also enable to the company to boost its market share.

      The all new Rapid model is expected to be priced in the price range of Rs 6.5 to 8.5 lakh, with both petrol and diesel variants. The major competitors of the Rapid model in the country will include Honda City, Hyundai Verna, Ford Fiesta, Maruti SX4, Toyota Etios, Nissan Sunny and Volkswagen Vento.

      The company is expecting to drive volume sales through the new Rapid model in the Indian market, in a recent statement given to ET, Skoda's global chairman Winfried Wahland said, “We launched 'Yeti' recently in the compact SUV segment. We have done well with 'Fabia' , and this year too we have grown in that segment. But 'Rapid' will beat everything. It will be the volume seller for India.”
