Skoda has launched a price war in India in the B2 segment where it competes with successful models like Hyundai i20 and Maruti Swift. Hyundai had recently announced a price hike in its models last month and similarly Maruti also hiked tje prices of all its models including Swift last month. On the other hand, Skoda recently came out with a new Fabia and has also announced a price cut of up to Rs. 67,000 on petrol variant and by Rs. 1.1 lakh on the diesel variant.

The base variant new Skoda Fabia which does not have any changes on the exterior or in the interior but comes with upgraded engine according to new emission norms will now cost Rs. 4.35 lakh against a base price of Rs. 5.03 lakh while the diesel model will cost Rs. 5.4 lakh against the earlier price of Rs. 6.5 lakh.

"We want to increase our stake in the Indian market, and have decided to make a thrust in the small car segment where the maximum volumes are. As part of this, we have gone on a new pricing for the Fabia that makes the  new car a compelling proposition and pits it aggressively to rivals," said SkodaAuto India director (sales & marketing) Thomas Kuehl.
