Maintaining its growth momentum, Skoda set yet another sales record in 2011, increasing its sales figure by 15 percent. Against 762,600 vehicles in 2010, the company sold 875,000 cars in 2011, which is its highest sales achievement. In motorsport, the year 2011 was the most successful year in company’s history. The carmaker successfully launched the new Rapid and Citigo at the same time to boost its sales.
In every region, SKODA's sales figure for 2011 was better than the previous year. The company considers Indian market crucial for its growth strategy. In 2011, sales of SKODA increased by around 50 percent, touching 30,000 cars. Apart from the Indian market, China, Germany and Russia, proved important for the company's progress. As a part of its growth plan, SKODA is investing in new markets, capacities and models. One example of its strategy is SKODA’s main plant in Mladá Boleslav, which is scheduled to be expanded by mid-2012. The company would introduce a third model in its existing fleet of Octavia and Fabia, once the expansion is done. In the plant, production capacity of Octavia will increase from 800 to 1,200 units per day.
In Czech Republic’s Vrchlabí plant of SKODA, the double-clutch transmissions would be produced by the end of 2012. This plant would cater to the requirement of double-clutch transmissions for entire Volkswagen Group namely SEAT, Volkswagen, Audi and SKODA brands.
At GAZ’s plant in Nizhniy Novgorod, Russia, Volkswagen Group Rus will jointly manufacture the SKODA Yeti along with its Russian partner GAZ. For new products and production sites, 14 billion euro will be invested by both Chinese joint ventures of Volkswagen by 2016. Octavia, Fabia and Superb are already produced in China and the company will add SKODA Yeti to its portfolio by 2013.
