Indian buyers may have to wait for a much longer time before they can actually own a Skoda CitiGo, as sources strongly believe that the hatchback would not be hitting the Indian roads in the near future. Moreover, plans to introduce this hatchback at the upcoming 2012 Indian Auto Expo is nowhere on the cards. Speculations are rife that the CitiGo is likely to be launched some time during the year 2014.

As part of its usual strategy, the CitiGo hatchback is expected to be placed below the Volkswagen Up as it would be priced at around Rs. 3.5 lacs, in the Indian market. Skoda India was in news some time back, when it expressed the desire of bringing out a sub-Fabia hatchback. Hence, Citigo can possibly be considered as the car the company was talking about of late.

With an aggressively priced Skoda CitiGo making its way to the Indian auto market, existing brands can have a tough time as Skoda would make its foray into the highly competitive Indian A+ small car segment. It is important to note that the segment has not witnessed even a single vehicle hailing from Skoda Auto. However, the likes of the Skoda Fabia is positioned quite closely with the A+ division, being an integral part of the B+ hatchback segment.

The CitiGo would not require an intensive marketing strategy to penetrate the market, as it will come in the form of a rebadged Up. Moreover, Volkswagen Up has been embraced in the market for its design and spaciousness and thus, the Skoda CitiGo expects to enter India with much aplomb.

Apart from possessing commonalities at the basic level, the Skoda CitiGo will also be equipped with the 1-litre, 3-cylinder engine that powers the Volkswagen Up. This engine would possibly come with two different power figures, 59 hp and 74 hp and has been skilfully designed to give maximum mileage and produce lowest emissions. The CitiGo, like the Volkswagen Up, has been produced to befit the city conditions in the best way. The hatchback from Skoda will debut in the European market during 2012.

Thus, being priced at Rs. 3.5 lacs, Skoda CitiGo is expected to confront the likes of the Maruti A-Star and the WagonR, when it lands on the Indian soil in 2014.
