Skoda, the completely owned subsidiary of Volkswagen, is expected to launch two new brands in the Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) segment in the Indian auto industry. The company is currently focusing on the development of two new SUVs, which will be introduced in the global auto market including India in the coming two to four years. At the 2011 Frankfurt Motor show, the senior officials of Skoda ambitiously announced that the auto maker will launch a new vehicle in every six months. The speculated launch of these two new SUV’s is likely to be the part of company’s strategy.

However the newest SUV introduced from the platform of Skoda will be Snowman, which will hit the Indian showrooms by the end of 2014. It is expected that this car will be based on the platform of Volkswagen Tiguan. On the other hand, the company is also planning to launch a compact SUV by the end of 2016, which will be a successor to the existing Skoda Yeti.

As far as engine of Snowman is concerned, it is equipped with a same engine provided in Tiguan. The powerful 2.0-litre TDi engine has the potential to churn out an impressive power of 168 bhp and is mated with a seven speed DSG transmission system. However, Volkswagen has introduced two types of engine options, but it is not confirmed on the part of Skoda. Auto analysts have speculated that the company will offer this car in the Indian market with a price tag of around Rs. 20 lacs.
