Pictures of a completely undisguised Renault Sport Megane have leaked on the internet ahead of its official reveal. The new car will be powered by a turbocharged 1.8-litre four-cylinder motor that makes in excess of 300bhp, and will be mated to either a manual gearbox or a six-speed Efficient Dual Clutch (EDC) transmission.
Expect the motor to be tweaked to outperform the outgoing Megane RS by a few milliseconds in the 0-100kmph run, and it may just turn out to be quicker than the Honda Civic Type R too. When the car hits the roads, it will be offered with two chassis options and four-wheel steering.
While one variant will come equipped with a ‘Sport’ chassis that will be road-biased, a stiffer ‘Cup’ chassis will be offered as a more track-biased iteration. Since the new Megane RS sits 25mm lower and has a wider track, it will grab the road better than the older car.
Renault is expected to showcase the new Megane RS at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September, before introducing it in the global market in 2018.
