The automobile show going on in Shanghai saw the unveiling of a new 1.4-litre BoosterJet turbocharged powertrain by Japanese car maker Suzuki. This petrol engine with a direct injection system is going to be first fitted in Chinese models, following which it will be launched in other international markets.
Though Suzuki did not release any sort of specifications regarding the engine but it did explain the main features through a preview video. As per the Japanese car maker, this new four-cylinder comes with dual overhead camshafts and has the ability to render a top class performance without affecting the fuel efficiency.
The presence of a direct injection system ensures efficient combustion of the fuel and the turbocharger facilitates in delivering top power levels at low engine speeds. There are six-hole fuel injectors in this engine that are supported by fuel pumps with high pressure, which atomizes the fuel prior to its entrance in the combustion chamber. Reports claim that the team of engineers at Suzuki have worked hard to create a lightweight design, which has happened due to optimisation of the layout.
Experts are of the opinion that sooner or later, Suzuki will launch this engine in the Indian market as well. Since Maruti Suzuki is planning to enter the compact and mid-sized Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) segments, this engine seems to be a perfect fit for such cars.
