      Santros exports cross 5 lakh units mark: Hyundai India

      Hyundai Motors India Limited, (HMIL), the largest car exporter in the Indian market, said on Tuesday that the exports of its flagship small car model Santro have crossed the 5,00,000 units mark from the country.

      In a statement given recently, HMIL’s Managing Director and CEO H W Park said, "The export of the Santro has reached five lakh units. From the time of its launch, this popular car has been widely appreciated for its design, technology and safety."

      Hyundai India started exporting its Hyundai Santro model to the neighboring countries in year 1999, following their manufacturing in India. The company had dispatched the first batch of 20 Santros to Nepal in the initial months. The export figures of the company (across models) crossed the 1 lakh unit mark in year 2004. At present, the company exports four of its India portfolio models including Santro, i10, i20 and the Accent models.

      According to Mr. Park, “With this we gear up for next phase of growth and remain committed to bringing world class products and service to our customers." He further elaborated, "In a little over a decade since Hyundai has been present in India it has become the leading exporter of passenger cars with a market share of 57 per cent of the total exports of passenger cars from India."
