Royal Enfield, the popular two-wheeler manufacturer in India based from Chennai has applied to get a trademark for the name ‘Himalayan’. This name can reportedly be used for anything ranging from spare part, accessories to motorcycles. However, there are rumours that the company is planning to launch an adventure motorcycle with the moniker. An interesting bit of news says that this new bike will be based on a fresh platform.
It is now known that Royal Enfield is looking forward to develop new models based on the new platforms, especially for the US and European markets. There are reports, which say that the new adventure motorcycle might feature the new 385 cc engine, which will eventually replace the 350 cc UCE mill.
Royal Enfield had hired Pierre Terblanche in the later part of the year 2014 as its head designer to make sure that there are no shortcomings as far as the designs are concerned. He had previously worked with Ducati, Piaggio, Norton, Cagiva and Confederate Motorcycles and has vast experience in this field.
The export numbers of Royal Enfield are not fairing quite well as was expected by the company. The retro look has been welcomed with an open heart in the Indian market but has failed to impress the US and European markets considerably. The main reason for this low-performance is the underpowered engines. The company has started working on a string of new engines, which would be adept to the global standards.
