The Cafe Racer made by Royal Enfield was first seen at the 2012 Delhi Auto Expo and a production variant of the same bike was showcased recently at the EICMA (Esposizione Internazionale Ciclo Motociclo e Accessori), Milan. As compared to the Milan version, certain changes have been made to keep the costs of the motorcycle low. A single cylinder 535cc UCE Engine has been positioned in the Royal Enfield Cafe Racer 535, as seen by the suffix used in the name. As compared to 27.2 bhp produced in the current Classic 500, power in the Cafe Racer will be beefed up to a phenomenal 36 bhp.
The stance of the Café Racer has been prepared in such a way so that it minimises the drag coefficient during motion, with the rider having to lean forward. Interesting details such as stylish fenders, clip-ons, rear seat foot pegs and a short bum-stop seat have been included in the Racer, which could mostly be seen in the 1950s and 60s. Lending additional style to the motorcycle is the retro exhaust muffler.
Rear view mirrors have been placed at the end of the handlebars. The Racer is also expected to be lighter than the Royal Enfield Classic, which would definitely aid performance figures. An example of weight reduction techniques is the use of plastic for the front mudguard. This will definitely be the most powerful Royal Enfield motorbike on Indian roads. Even conventional Royal Enfield Bullet enthusiasts, who expect minimalist styling from these vehicles, would be forced to appreciate the design of the Racer.
