On May 05, 2012, a man and his pregnant wife were killed in yet another accident involving a BMW in Gurgaon, as the car in question collided with a Tata Indigo. Four other people belonging to the same family were seriously injured in the incident, reported the police. The accident happened near IFFCO Chowk Metro Station, where the Indigo carrying six people was rammed head on by the speeding BMW Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) with number plate HR 26 AV 0007.

The reportedly pregnant woman, Kushan Chopra, aged 35 years, and Sanjay Gulati, aged 34 years, were killed on the spot. On the other hand, Rajendra Chopra, Meena Chopra, Daksh Chopra and Sanjay Sethi aged 68 years, 65 years, 25 years and 38 years, respectively, were gravely injured and rushed to the hospital. Belonging to Bhilai, Chhatisgarh, all of them were returning to their hometown in the Indigo after having a family member treated in Medicity Hospital in Gurgaon. The driver of the concerned BMW SUV is on the run and a case has been register against him by the police.

Jagdish Prasad Rai, the investigating officer in the case, reported, “The speeding BMW hit the Indigo near IFFCO Chowk Metro Station. The BMW is registered on the name of Devender Singh Sehrawat of Sector 14. Singh is a property dealer.” He further added, “The driver of the SUV left it at the spot and fled.”

Police suspects that the car was driven by the 21 year old son of the property dealer. However, it cannot be confirmed as the co-passenger in the BMW, who happens to be a Delhi University student, is critically injured and struggling for life and, thus, not in a position to be interrogated.

The national capital and adjoining areas have witnessed a steady increase in the number of accidents involving luxury cars. Earlier on 15th April 2012, another BMW car smashed a motorcycle passing by Rajghat near Central Delhi, when a minor girl and two others were seriously injured. A Mercedes Benz crashed into a patrol bike 10th April 2012, killing a police constable, whereas a 23 year old BBA student was killed by a Toyota Corolla just three days later. On 19th February 2012, a Lamborghini driven by a 26 year old banged into a divider in South Delhi, resulting in the demise of the driver.
