      Riding high on heavy sales, Ford plans to export Figo to 48 countries

      Riding high on the heavy sales of its highly successful compact hatchback Ford Figo in the country, Ford India is now planning to export this popular hatchback to as many as 48 foreign countries in coming months. Since its launch in March 2010, the company has sold impressive 58,000 units of Figo hatchback in the Indian market. With this, the company has also geared-up to export over 7,000 units of this car to the South-African market by the end of this month.

      Speaking to an news agency, Ford India's President and Managing Director, Michael Boneham said that Figo has received a very good response in the Indian market and the company now plans to take it globally. He added that the company will export 7,000 Figo models to the South African market by this year-end and plans to export this hatchback to 48 countries going forward.

      In just 9 months of its launch in the country, the Figo has become one of the most sought after cars in India. The car is currently taking on with the likes of Chevrolet Beat, Volkswagen Polo, Nissan Micra, Maruti Swift, Hyundai i10 and Fiat Punto. The Figo model has left many of its competitors far behind in numbers, thanks to the company’s comparatively stronger sales network.

      Thrilled by the performance of Figo in the country, the company now plans to roll-out as many as eight new car models in the Indian market by year 2015. With this, the company has also planned a massive expansion of its manufacturing capacity in the Indian market.

      The company has registered a three-fold increase in its sales during the month of November 2010. The company sold 7,504 units of its cars during this month as against 2,520 units sold in the same month preceding year.
