Since the time BMW’s i3 was launched globally, more than 60,000 examples have been sold, and sources now suggest that the facelifted BMW i3 could roll into showrooms sometime in 2017.

Reworked BMW i3 may be introduced next year

Though BMW hasn’t released the details, the i3 project manager Heinrich Schwackhoefer has affirmed his confidence in the upcoming i3 facelift. With the competition heating up in the EV space, BMW’s facelifted i3 is expected to offer new technology and an increased range. Due to the new battery pack, the upcoming i3 is expected to have a 50 per cent increase in range. In May this year, BMW updated the current i3 with a battery pack that saw the range increase to 183km, but the next i3 is probably going to see the range rise to 273km.

We can anticipate the current generation i3 to get a slew of upgrades over the next few years to keep it competitive until the all-new i3 is ready roll into the market (still some years away). With the brand targeting between 15 and 25 per cent of the electric car space in the future, BMW has a few cars lined up like the 3 Series EV, 530e, i8 Spyder, an all-electric Mini, X3 EV, and the Mini Countryman PHEV.
