Renault is considering an entry level hatchback for the Indian market; the hatchback is yet in development stage and is being worked upon under the codename XBA. If we go by industry insiders, the hatchback will be ready for launch by next year. Ditching the GO platform, Renault’s entry level hatchback will underpin a new platform christened CMF-A.
The new platform, CMF-A, shares slight resemblance with the Volkswagen’s MQB platform and has been developed in such a way that it gives flexibility for various body styles and power trains. Renault is currently working on the platform at its manufacturing unit located near Chennai. Sources close to development reveal that this platform could be used for Datsun Redi-Go which will be positioned above Go.
Along with the induction XBA platform the company will also induct a new 1.0 litre petrol engine. Details on the new engine have been kept under the wraps, it is yet being worked upon and will take a while before the company reveals it officially. For higher fuel economy a low displacement engine will be a viable option. In the entry level segment Renault’s new car will compete with the likes of Hyundai Eon, Maruti Alto 800 and Datsun Go.
