      Renault-Nissan alliance is noted as the longest lasting cross-cultural collaboration in the automotive sector on marking the alliance during its 15th anniversary. At the anniversary event, Carlos Ghosn, Renault-Nissan CEO, said, “Together, Renault and Nissan have significantly expanded their global footprint and generated economies of scale vastly larger than either company could accomplish on its own. Renault and Nissan have charted a unique course for 15 years, maximizing synergies while nurturing each company’s distinct brands and corporate culture.”

      The alliance dates back to the year 1999 when Nissan Motor company was on the verge of bankruptcy and Renault purchased up to 36.8% stake in the company. Five year down the line, the Renault-Nissan alliance bore benefit with the launch of Renault Modus that was built on a joint B platform. Next two years later the alliance was gained a solid ground with the unveiling of 2.0-litre dCi diesel that was made as a result of collaborative efforts from both the companies and served the fleet under Nissan and Renault brand name. In current times, Renault holds around 43.4% stake in Nissan, whereas on the other hand Nissan holds around 15% stake in Renault.

      As per sources the Renault-Nissan alliance accounts for one among 10 cars that are sold worldwide. The Alliance brought in about eight brands namely Renault, Renault Samsung, Nissan, Dacia, Infiniti, Venucia, Datsun and Lada. The Alliance also made a new record last year with Russia's largest automaker Avtovaz and sold an astonishing 8.3 million cars on a global level. The zero-emission mobility philosophy is said to be hitting well with the Renault-Nissan alliance. The Nissan Leaf was launched in December 2010 and attained sales number of 134,000 zero-emission units on a global level.
