Renault India might be planning to begin testing of the Kaptur SUV in India. The automaker has imported a pre-production version of the vehicle to our country, suggest reports.

The Renault Kaptur looks similar to the Captur model, but is a new product aimed at developing markets. The five-seater crossover measures 4,333mm in length, 1,813mm in width, 1,613mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2,606mm. The sporty looking vehicle has a ground clearance of 204mm good enough to tackle rough terrain. The interior is more premium than what can be seen in the Duster's cabin and gets a whole load of new features. There is 387litres of boot space, which can be extended to 1,200litres with the folding option of the rear seat.

Renault India might start testing the Kaptur soon

In the international market, the Renault Kaptur comes powered by a 114bhp 1.6-litre engine and a 143bhp 2.0-litre mill. The Indian-spec Kaptur might get the 110bhp 1.5-litre K9K diesel from the Duster and also the 1.6-litre petrol unit. Transmission options will include the six-speed manual and automatic gearbox. We expect Renault India to also offer the AWD option in our country.

The Kaptur's testing and evaluation might soon start in India. However, its launch for the Indian market might happen only in the second half of 2017. It is based on the Duster's MO platform and might use several parts and components from this existing model. It will be slotted above the Duster and below the Koleos in our market.
