The waiting period for those who have purchased Renault Kwid has now been extended to 10 months! The French automaker’s budget hatchback was launched amid much fanfare in September and garnered over 50,000-60,000 bookings in a very short period. However, they have not been able to meet this demand due to production issues and have only managed to deliver around 10,000 cars in the last two months.

The company has had a major setback thanks to the recent floods that ravged Chennai city where the Renault-Nissan plant is located halting production for a significant period. It is possible that those ordering for the car now will only be able to take delivery of the vehicle by the middle of next year. It seems that once production resumes at the factory, Renault might produce the Kwid in multiple shifts to meet the growing demand.

Launched in September for a phenomenal entry price of Rs 2.56 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) the Kwid has been the success that Renault was looking for in India. It is offered with a single petrol engine and a five-speed manual gearbox. There are six variants and five colour options available for the Indian market.
