The Kwid hatchback from Renault has been selling well courtesy its design. But, many are demanding a larger, more powerful engine. To cater to this demand, Renault has reportedly been working on a 1-litre alterative to the Kwid. Now, there’s fresh info that the much talked about 1.0-litre variant of the Kwid has been exported to various countries for research and development purpose.

It is also believed that the 1.0-litre Kwid variant could also be offered with an Automated Manual Transmission (AMT). The new Kwid variants could likely be showcased at the upcoming 2016 Auto Expo event in the country. In terms of dimensions, it will continue to be offered with 180mm of ground clearance and about 300-litres of boot space. It could also continue being offered with touchscreen infotainment system that comes with Bluetooth connectivity and AUX support.

The current Renault Kwid comes with a 799cc, 3-cylinder petrol engine that generates about 53bhp of power and 72Nm of peak torque. Currently, it only comes mated to a 5-speed manual transmission and returns a decent mileage figure of around 25.17kmpl (ARAI). It is to be seen if the smaller engine may also be offered with an AMT transmission in the future.
