The Indian unit of the French car maker Renault is now increasing its focus on enhancing its market share of diesel run cars in its sales in the Indian auto market. The company has already planned to roll-out three new diesel run car models which will be a part of its portfolio expansion plans in year 2012. Moreover, the company will increase the percentage of local content in the manufacturing of its cars in the Indian market, so that the production costs can be cut-down efficiently.
In a statement given to IANS over phone, Renault India vice president for sales and marketing, Mr. Len Curran said, "Every model which we launch next year will have a diesel version. Our focus is on diesel cars."
The share of the diesel run cars in the total sales of passenger cars of in the country was at 27 percent last year, which is expected to surge-up to 33 percent in the current year. As per the data released by Industry body SIAM (Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers), the total passenger car sales stood at 2.52 millions, last year.
At the Auto Expo 2012, the company is all set to launch its small car – Renault Pulse – in the Indian market. The Renault Pulse will be firm’s third portfolio model in the Indian market. The company plans to take the total number of its portfolio models to 5 by the end of next year.
