The Renault Koleos has been unlisted from the company’s India official website. Just like the Fluence before it, the premium five-seater SUV is now discontinued for the Indian market.
Renault's decision of pulling the plug on the Koleos doesn’t come as a surprise, however. The SUV was costlier than most of its rivals and thus it never really managed to bring in any excitement or sales numbers for that matter. Renault India was assembling the Koleos and the Fluence at its plant near Chennai via CKD. This meant a hefty price tag compared to the models’ competitors.
Nonetheless, Renault India’s heavily localised products like the Kwid are selling well. Reports suggest Renault India will only market bigger sized cars that have at least 80 per cent localisation while for small cars this number has been pegged at 95 per cent. The company is expected to launch at least one new product every year over the next five years. These new products could include a compact SUV and a compact sedan based on the Kwid besides replacements for the Pulse hatchback and the Scala sedan.
